1. Prepare your season and roster
Have both teams’ rosters and jersey numbers ready. Sign in with an account that has an active trial or subscription and access to your team. Before kickoff, check that your browser can load Gabbro and save an entry in a separate sample game; this guide covers the connected web workflow.
- Open Seasons in the sidebar. Choose New Season, enter its name and year, and choose Create. On the season card, choose Set Active.
- Open Teams → New Team. Find your school, or choose Create a custom team. Check the team name and abbreviation, and mark your own team as My Team. Add the opponent too.
- Open Players, select the team and season, and add the roster with New Player. Check jersey numbers for both teams; Play Command uses them to identify players.
Our sample: Harbor Eagles (H) at home against Valley Bears (V), in the 2026 Sample Season. Harbor’s #12 is Alex Morgan; Valley’s #52 is Casey Reed. Use your actual matchup and roster in your own game.
2. Create the matchup
Open Games → New Game. Select the season, game date, home team, and away team. Add the kickoff time and venue if known, then choose Create. Double-check home and away before entering any plays: h and a refer to those sides, not automatically to your team.
Open Track on the game. Use Set Starters to choose players and positions, then save. Check the quarter, clock, possession, down, distance, and ball spot against the field. Choose Start Game when play begins.
3. Record your first play
In Play Command, enter the situation and result. For our sample, Harbor has first-and-10 at its own 40, with 11:42 left in the first quarter. #12 gains six yards and Valley’s #52 makes the tackle:
q1 11:42 d1 &10 H40 h r 12 +6 t 52
- q1 11:42 d1 &10
- Quarter 1, clock 11:42, first down, 10 yards to gain.
- H40 h
- Harbor’s 40-yard line; the home team has possession. Replace H with the abbreviation used for your team’s ball spots.
- r 12 +6
- A rush by home #12 for six yards.
- t 52
- A solo tackle by opposing #52.
Read Command Preview and Matched Players before choosing Save. This example should credit Alex Morgan with a six-yard rush to H46 and Casey Reed with the tackle. After saving, confirm the play appears in the history and the next situation is second-and-4 at H46.
If a number does not match, check the team, season roster, and jersey number first. Resolve any error before saving. You can also use the play-entry form and Save Play. Keep checking the clock and situation as the game progresses; a saved play is not a substitute for checking the field.
4. Check and correct the record
Compare the score, possession, down, distance, and ball spot after each entry. At a break, review the recent plays with your spotter.
- For a mistaken last entry, choose Undo Last. This removes the last play immediately. Check the resulting game situation, then enter the correct play.
- For an earlier mistake, choose Edit on that play, or View/Edit All to find it. Correct the form and choose Update Play. Gabbro rebuilds the downstream game statistics; check the resulting game state before continuing.
- Resolve any play flagged for review, especially penalty enforcement spots. Do not guess a missing spot just to clear a warning.
Use End Quarter at a period boundary and Record Halftime at the half. Check the next period and clock before entering its first play. Report publishing is a separate step below.
6. Run the final check
- Match the final score and period-by-period linescore to your official record.
- Check player credits, team totals, and any unresolved review warnings.
- Open the latest final report and verify its version before distributing it.
- Use Season Totals to review the game in the context of your season.
Rehearse with a separate sample game before your first live assignment. Keep its GameCast disabled and do not add real report recipients.
